One of the most important and well-known archaic temples, the Temple of Demetra, is located in Sangri.
This temple is one of the most interesting archaeological monuments on the island, built in 530 BC and gives unique information about ancient architecture and specifically about the construction of the marble roof, the early forms of the classic order, the curves and optical corrections similar to those observable in the Parthenon, but a century earlier.
It introduces constructions that are recognized as forerunners of classical Attica architecture.
